Seeing Red: Our Eyewear Edit Inspired by The Devil Wears Prada

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since The Devil Wears Prada first hit our screens. The long-awaited sequel has finally arrived (released today, 1st May), and the excitement at Occhiali is very real!
If the original film defined an era of fashion, the sequel is already setting the tone for what’s next and one thing is clear - red is the moment.
From the instantly recognisable iconic glossy red stiletto (complete with its devilish pitchfork heel) featured across the film’s marketing, to the press tour and premiere looks from Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt - this bold, passionate shade has taken centre stage once again.
We’ve particularly loved seeing Meryl Streep embracing the colour in a pair of striking red sunglasses from Lapima and Emmanuelle Khanh - proof that even the smallest accessory can completely transform a look.
With all that said, it felt like the perfect moment to share our current favourite eyewear picks in red. Here are our top five frames that capture that same passionate, fiery energy.
1. Morel Oga
A versatile shape that works equally well for men and women, the Oga lets the colour do the talking. Fine etched black detailing along the top of the frame adds a subtle but distinctive touch, while the vivid, saturated red is the real showstopper. This frame will look particularly striking on anyone with high contrast colouring (think dark hair paired with light, defined eyes).
2. FOLC Vivi
For those who want a nod to red rather than a full commitment, the Vivi is the answer. FOLC are celebrated for their chamfered raw edges set against a polished acetate finish - a combination that gives their frames a beautifully sculpted, architectural quality that you really have to see in person. This particular style is predominantly tortoiseshell, with a deeper red appearing along the lower front and temples. Chic, sophisticated, and just the right amount of colour.
3. MATTTEW Radium
One of our newest arrivals - picked up on our recent trip to the MIDO Eyewear Exhibition in Milan - and the moment we saw it, we knew it was coming home with us. The Radium is a fine metal frame that brings a more minimalist silhouette, but there is nothing understated about that red. MATTTEW create their own paint in-house, and it contains tiny flecks of glitter that give it a glossy, almost lacquered finish. A little like that famous stiletto actually!
4. FEB31st Tetra
This one has drawn plenty of admiring glances in the boutique, and it's easy to understand why. Handcrafted in Northern Italy from FSC-approved wood, the Tetra is a genuinely bold piece. The asymmetric colour block combines a vivid red with a rich, dark woodgrain, and the result is striking in the best possible way. This frame is for people who aren't afraid to make a statement, and the sustainable craftsmanship behind it makes it all the more worth wearing.
5. Danielle Rattray Lowe
We could not end this list anywhere else. The Lowe, by our beloved Scottish designer Danielle Rattray (based in Stonehaven) is a truly exceptional piece of eyewear. This fine metal cat eye won Women's Sunglass Frame of the Year at London's 100% Optical in 2024, and the shape really is unlike anything else we've seen. Paired with matching red lenses, it's a glamorous, head-turning look. It also translates beautifully as an optical frame with clear lenses, if that's more your style.
All five frames are available in the boutique now. Whether you'd like to pop in or prefer to book a consultation, we'd love to help you find your perfect pair.
Will you be heading to the cinema to see The Devil Wears Prada 2 this weekend?
We can’t wait. That’s all!
